Well House was built when George III was on the throne and the New Forest was still chiefly a royal hunting ground. The walls are thick, the ceilings low, and the garden still has the well that gave the house its name — long since capped, but quietly presiding over the herb beds.
We've kept the bones of the place. Oak floorboards that have heard two centuries of footsteps. A range that still does the baking. Sash windows that rattle in a south-westerly. The conveniences are thoroughly modern — proper showers, fast Wi-Fi, a decent mattress — but the spirit of the house is unchanged. It is, above all, somewhere to slow down.
You'll likely meet the dog. Possibly a chicken. Almost certainly a kettle that's already on.
