For two decades, Wachtel & Weisfeld has cared for eyes in Hillsborough Township — from routine exams to microsurgery. We work slowly, on purpose, because the small details of your vision are not small to you.

Wachtel & Weisfeld was founded on a stubborn idea: that an ophthalmology practice could remain small, unhurried, and personally accountable to the people it serves — even as the technology of eye care grew more complex around it.
Dr. Rachel Wachtel and Dr. Ari Weisfeld are board-certified ophthalmologists with combined training at Wills Eye Hospital, Bascom Palmer, and the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary. They see every patient themselves, read every scan themselves, and answer the phone themselves more often than not.
The Hillsborough Township office is equipped for medical and surgical eye care under one roof — from comprehensive exams and OCT imaging to in-office laser procedures and hospital-based cataract surgery. No satellite clinics. No rotating providers. The eyes you arrive with are the eyes we know.

A 90-minute physician exam with dilated fundus evaluation, refraction, intraocular pressure, and a reviewed (not auto-generated) assessment. The foundation of everything else we do.

Cataract Surgery & Premium IOL
Outpatient phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation at a Somerset County surgical center. Standard monofocal, toric astigmatism-correcting, and multifocal lens options discussed in advance — never decided for you.

Glaucoma Diagnosis & Management
OCT of the optic nerve, visual field testing, pressure monitoring, and a stepwise treatment plan — drops, selective laser trabeculoplasty, or surgery. We follow you, not a calendar of generic return visits.

Medical Retina — Diabetes & AMD
Diabetic retinopathy screening, macular degeneration management, and intravitreal therapy where indicated. OCT-A imaging on site; anti-VEGF injections performed in our Hillsborough Township procedure room.

Same-day appointments for flashers, floaters, sudden vision loss, foreign body, or chemical exposure. Call before noon; we hold slots every weekday for problems that cannot wait.

We don't volume. We do attention.
Most ophthalmology practices in New Jersey run on volume — forty patients a day, ten minutes with the doctor, the rest with a technician. We chose the opposite. Our schedule caps at sixteen patients per day. You will spend most of your visit with a physician, not an aide.
That choice costs us money and limits how many patients we can accept. It also happens to be the only way we know to practice medicine we'd want for our own families.
