Open Fires
Two crackling hearths, original oak beams, low ceilings. The way a country pub is supposed to feel.
A thatched, oak-beamed free house off the A303 — open fires in winter, a beautiful beer garden in summer, and a kitchen that still believes in proper homemade pies, real ales, and Sunday roasts worth driving for. Families and dogs very much welcome.
The White Horse Inn sits in the picturesque village of Thruxton, just off the old London-to-Exeter road — a welcoming, dog-eared, dog-friendly escape that has been pouring pints since the fifteenth century. Under new ownership since June 2025, we've kept everything that matters: the original oak beams, the low ceilings, two crackling open fireplaces, and a beer garden made for long summer evenings.
What comes out of the kitchen is British cooking at its most honest — local, authentic, and unapologetically old-school. Think proper homemade pies with crisp pastry, incredible Bloody Marys, and a Sunday roast that already has its own reputation.
Children in the play area. Dogs by the fire. Motorhomes in the private overnight parking. Thruxton Circuit less than a mile down the road. Come for a pint. Stay for the pie.
“It's food as it should be: local, authentic, delicious — and unapologetically British. A pie, a pint, a fire in the grate. That's the whole idea.” — The White Horse Inn, Thruxton
A thatched, Grade II listed free house dating back to the mid-1700s — though the bones of the place go back further still. Two open fireplaces for winter, a beautiful beer garden for summer, and a low-ceilinged bar that has been the meeting place of Thruxton for centuries. We are, frankly, lovelier in every season.
Two crackling hearths, original oak beams, low ceilings. The way a country pub is supposed to feel.
A proper thatched garden with a children's play area — pints in the sun, kids on the swings, dogs under the bench.
In the pub, in the restaurant, in the grounds, in the rooms. Water bowls by the fire, treats behind the bar.
Within a mile of Thruxton Circuit. Track-day breakfast, post-race pint, or a bed for the night — we've got you.
Stop by for a pint, stay a little longer. Our overnight rooms sit within the original inn building — period features, modern bathrooms, and a proper Hampshire breakfast laid on in the morning. Private overnight parking for motorhomes, too.
