An independent Victorian pub with rooms, plate, and fireplace — minutes from Paultons Park, the M27, and the woods themselves.
You'll find us at Ower, a small New Forest hamlet tucked between Totton and Romsey — handy for meet-ups, weekends away, and days out, but with a feel all of its own.
As of November 2024, The Mortimer Arms is fully independent. Every decision — from what's on the bar to who paints the walls — now sits with us. That's a promise to keep things local, honest, and a little bit personal.
The building dates from the Victorian period and was originally part of the Paultons estate — a grand country affair that once centred on a manor house where the theme park now stands.
That estate history gives the inn its traditional look and sturdy proportions. Think tall sash windows, a classic country silhouette, and the kind of walls that have settled comfortably into their setting.
For decades, the Mortimer Arms has been a fixture of life around the Ower interchange — a stopping point for foresters, families, and travellers on their way west. In late 2024, the keys were handed over to a small, local team. The look hasn't changed. The heart of the place, we hope, has only just begun to find itself.
A handful of characterful bedrooms above and beside the inn — properly made up, properly quiet, and a short stumble from a final pint at the bar.
Most Popular
A comfortable double with the inn's original Victorian character — sash windows, soft linens, and a proper kettle on the dresser.
Family Friendly
Two single beds in a bright, airy room — perfect for walkers splitting the cost of a New Forest weekend, or siblings on a Paultons Park trip.
Spacious
Room for the whole party — a king plus extras, generous floorspace, and a short drive to Paultons Park for the morning stampede.
Home of Peppa Pig World. We're the closest proper inn to the gates — perfect for early arrivals and tired departure dinners.
Ponies, heathland, ancient woodland. Step out of the door and you're on the edge of one of England's quietest national parks.
A historic market town with a beautiful abbey, the Broadlands estate, and a proper weekly market. Well worth an afternoon.
We sit right at the Ower Interchange — easy on, easy off, and a natural meeting point if you're coming from across the south.
"Perfect stop-off on the way into the New Forest. Rooms were spotless, the food was proper, and the welcome was warm. We'll be back."
"Stayed the night before Paultons Park — ten minutes from the gate, the kids loved it, and the sausage and mash was the highlight of the trip."
"You can feel that the place has just been set free. Pint was excellent, fire was lit, bar staff actually chat. This is what a country pub should feel like."
