On the High Street of Amesbury since 1560 â a splendid example of England's coaching inn heritage, thoughtfully restored, just minutes from Stonehenge.
"A splendid example of England's rich coaching inn heritage."
The George Hotel has stood on Amesbury's High Street since 1560 â first as a staging post for travellers, merchants and mail coaches on the great west road, today as a warmly restored country inn.
Every oak beam, every crooked doorway, every worn flagstone tells a story. We've kept them all, and around them built something new: individually decorated rooms with modern comforts, a kitchen rooted in Wiltshire's larder, and a traditional ale bar where the fire is always lit.
No two rooms are alike. Each has been dressed in its own character â soft furnishings, period pieces, modern bones. All with en-suite bathrooms, smart televisions and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout.
Compact and beautifully formed, with original beams and a comfortable double â perfect for a single night or a solo traveller passing through Wiltshire.
A generous double room dressed in rich period fabrics, with a feature fireplace and views across the High Street. The country inn room, as it ought to be.
Our most roomy retreat â high ceilings, exposed brickwork, a luxurious king and space to settle in. Ideal for couples making a weekend of Stonehenge and Salisbury.
Our kitchen builds its menus around the seasons and the produce of our neighbouring farms, makers and growers. Expect properly British cooking, done generously, in portions that suit a long walk on Salisbury Plain.
Beyond the restaurant, the old ale bar waits â oak beams, low ceilings, a crackling fire in the grate and a thoughtful rotation of cask ales from Wiltshire and the West Country.
Seasonal à la carte menus showcasing the best of Wiltshire's larder, served daily.
Oak beams, open fires and a rotating cast of cask ales. The room the inn was built around.
A 13th-century corner for billiards, board games and a quiet nightcap.
The ideal base for exploring the historic and scenic attractions of Wiltshire â a thoughtfully restored coaching inn with real warmth and character. â A Guest of The George
