The Duke
on the Test
A historic 16th century inn, reimagined for the 21st. The perfect place to find pleasure in the company of friends old and new — over a pint of local ale, a long lunch, or a quiet night by the river.

thoroughly unchanged
in all the ways
that matter.

The Bar
Locally made real ales,
poured with proper care.
CAMRA-listed and proud of it. We keep a rotating selection of cask-conditioned ales from the breweries dotted across Hampshire and the Test Valley — small producers, traditional methods, character you can taste.
Beyond the handpulls, the back bar holds a thoughtful list of English sparkling wines, spirits from local distillers, and a small, considered wine list chosen to sit alongside the food.
Ringwood Best
A classic local bitter. Biscuity, with a clean bitter finish and a whisper of Fuggles hops. The house pint.
Italic
A golden ale brewed up the road in Alton. Floral, citrussy, dangerously drinkable on a long evening.
Guest Cask
A changing line. Could be a dark porter from a South Downs microbrewery, could be a saison. Ask what's on.
Twelve luxurious
en-suite bedrooms.
A short walk from the bar, a longer sleep than you'll have at home. Each room is individually dressed, with everything you need and very little you don't.
Stay the night in one of our twelve luxurious en-suite bedrooms — individually furnished, each with its own character. Wake to the sound of the river, walk down to a proper breakfast, and let the rest of the day look after itself.
Perfect for a weekend exploring the Test Valley, a stop on a longer journey through Hampshire, or simply because you'd rather not drive home.
On Greatbridge Road,
by the river.
Just outside Romsey town centre, on the banks of the River Test. A short taxi from Romsey railway station, half an hour from Southampton, and an easy drive from Winchester and Salisbury.
