Set in the heart of Salisbury, The Chapter House is a traditional bar, a cosy South African-twisted steakhouse, and a handful of ensuite letting rooms — all wrapped into one black-and-white timbered building two minutes' amble from the Cathedral close.
The Chapter House continues to hold its own as one of the finest steakhouses in the south west — a low-beamed, fire-warmed room where the welcome is genuine, the wine list tilts toward Stellenbosch, and the dry-aged cuts arrive exactly as you'd hope.
You'll find house dry-aged beef, finger-licking racks of marinated ribs, handmade pure-beef burgers, and a wide sweep of poultry, fish and vegetarian dishes. There's a South African thread running through it all — Bobotie, Durban-style curry, bottles from the Hemel en Aarde Valley — quietly nudging the menu somewhere more interesting than your average county steakhouse.
