A country home,

Sue Manning and Mark Kendall bought their home in 1995 and have spent the decades since slowly transforming it into a place of genuine comfort. Along the way, the house changed its name from The Eyrie to The Bothy — a small word for a small, sheltered place to rest.

During refurbishment, a discovery in the title deeds revealed something unexpected: this was once the country home of Harry Beck — designer of the iconic London Underground map. We like to think his eye for clarity and calm still lingers in the lines of the house.

The Garden & Grounds

An acre of quiet.

The Bothy stands in a full acre of land — and almost all of it is yours to wander. Plenty of seating areas are tucked into the garden, each catching a different angle of sun, a different view, a different kind of stillness.

In summer, guests are greeted with a country cream tea on one of the patios. Fresh tea and coffee are available whenever Sue and Mark are around — which is most of the time.

When Sue and Mark began refurbishing the house, they uncovered something curious in the title deeds. The property had once been the country home of Harry Beck — the Londoner who, in 1933, designed the London Underground map that the world still recognises today. There's something pleasing about a man obsessed with clean lines and clear routes finding his rest here, at the end of a quiet Hampshire lane. We hope your stay is just as considered.

On arrival, you'll be welcomed with a country cream tea — often served on the garden patio in summer.

If you've emailed but not yet sent a deposit, we appreciate a quick confirmation one week before your stay.
