Vocational Assessment
A two-to-four week evaluation combining aptitude testing, transferable skills analysis, and a written vocational profile that holds up in court, with MRC, or in your own job search.
We are a community-rooted vocational rehabilitation practice serving adults across Greater Boston — guiding people living with disabilities, injuries, and employment barriers through assessment, retraining, and supported placement into jobs that last.
Somerville Vocational Rehab was founded in 2009 by a small team of certified rehabilitation counselors who believed that returning to work should never feel like a transaction. Fifteen years later, we still sit across from people — not cases.
Our counselors hold credentials through the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification and partner closely with the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, local Workforce Investment Boards, and Somerville-area employers who understand that talent doesn't always arrive in a straight line.
Every engagement begins with a conversation and ends with a plan you actually understand. Below is a representative range of what we provide, with indicative pricing for self-pay clients. MRC referrals and insurance authorizations are billed separately and often covered in full.

One-on-one support from application through the first 90 days of employment — including resume building, mock interviews, on-site job coaching, and employer liaison work.
Customized retraining tracks in growing Greater Boston sectors — administrative technology, allied health support, warehousing & logistics, and customer experience operations.
ADA-compliant accommodation planning for employees and employers — including ergonomic assessments, assistive technology recommendations, and return-to-work protocols after injury.
Forensic-quality evaluations for workers' compensation, personal injury, and family law matters — completed by CRC-credentialed counselors with courtroom experience.
Ongoing, individualized support for adults with significant disabilities — including benefits counseling, SSI/SSDI work incentives guidance, and continuous employer check-ins.
We maintain active partnerships with more than forty Somerville, Cambridge, and Boston employers — from Mass General Brigham to union trade shops on Inner Belt Road — who pick up the phone when we call.
Most agencies disappear after placement. We stay embedded for the first ninety days, running weekly check-ins with both employee and supervisor so small problems never become exits.
Returning to work shouldn't cost you your healthcare. Our benefits specialists are trained on SSA work incentives, MassHealth Buy-In, and Section 301 — so you understand every trade-off before you accept an offer.
A 45-minute conversation — in person at our Somerville office, by phone, or over video. We listen first, paperwork second.
Two to four weeks of structured evaluation, ending with a written vocational profile you keep and a plan you understand.
Resume, skills refresh, mock interviews, accommodation planning — whatever your specific plan calls for, built around you.
We stay with you through the first ninety days on the job, with weekly check-ins and direct employer liaison support.
Whether you're referred by MRC, recovering from a workplace injury, or simply exploring a return to work after years away — we'd rather hear your story than read a form. Reach out and a counselor will respond within two business days.
