Mr. Taco TXC.

A family-run taquería on the Gulf coast, pressing tortillas by hand and grilling over Texas mesquite. Slow salsas, charred meats, and a salsa bar that changes with the season.

01 — Our story

Pressed by hand,
grilled over mesquite.

Mr. Taco TXC started as a weekend pop-up out of a single food trailer in 2017. Today it is a full-service taquería in the heart of Texas City — still family-run, still pressing every tortilla by hand, still using the same mesquite logs we started with.

From the family

“We don’t rush the masa. We don’t rush the meat. The mesquite does the work — we just listen.”

Every tortilla is pressed to order. Every cut of beef is grilled over open mesquite coals. The salsas simmer for hours, not minutes.

Since 2017 Serving Texas City from a single trailer to a full taquería.
Daily 400+ Hand-pressed tortillas, made to order.

Mesquite, not gas. We burn Texas mesquite logs for everything that touches the grill — it gives the meat its dark, smoky edge that you can’t fake on a flat-top.

03 — What we’re known for

Five things
worth the drive.

If it’s your first time, start here. These are the plates regulars drive across Galveston County for — and the ones we’d put on the table if you were family.

Mesquite-grilled carne asada

Skirt steak marinated in citrus and garlic, grilled hard over open mesquite coals. Charred edges, rare middle, served on a hand-pressed tortilla with nothing but salsa roja and onion.

The salsa bar

Five salsas, rotating with the season — from a bright tomatillo-avocado to a slow-burning morita chipotle. Try them all. Take notes. Bring tissues.

Hand-pressed masa

We nixtamalize heirloom corn in-house and press every tortilla to order. You’ll taste the difference — it’s the difference between bread and toast.

Brisket birria, Texas-style

Slow-braised Texas brisket folded into a cheese-crisped quesataco with a deep, dark consommé for dipping. It’s the plate that put us on the map.

Catering & private events

Full taquería setup for parties, offices, and tailgates across the Texas City area. We bring the comal, the mesquite, and the whole salsa bar.
