Why choose local authority building control

Five reasons it's different
with LABC.

Private approved inspectors come and go. Local authority building control is anchored to your borough — accountable to the public, present for the long term.

01

In-depth local expertise

Our surveyors possess a deep understanding of local ground conditions, non-standard construction typologies, and the quirks that come with building in their own borough.

02

Unbiased inspection

Working in the public interest means impartial sign-off — not a commercial relationship that depends on keeping a client happy. Compliance comes first.

03

Continuity & accountability

If a private inspector withdraws mid-project, your work can stall. Local authority control stays with you — and stays on the record — for the life of the building.

04

Cross-borough consistency

The LDSA unifies surveyors from every London authority, so a project straddling Southwark and Lambeth gets the same considered technical approach.

05

A wider technical network

Backed by 3,000+ LABC professionals across England and Wales, your local surveyor has the weight of a national technical community behind them.

Our London heritage

Three and a half centuries of London construction.

The London District Surveyors Association — the LDSA — was formed 350 years ago to give teams from across the capital a place to consult on the technical aspects of the regulations, share information, work with clients across borough boundaries, and deliver a consistent service.

Today the LDSA provides the LABC service for all Greater and Central London boroughs. Our surveyors and support staff are based at each of the 32 local authorities across London and the City of London Corporation — Building Control Managers unified in their approach to building control delivery and building regulations compliance.
