01 — Studio

Twenty‑five
years of quiet craft.

A family studio, not a crew-of-the-week.

Hummingbird began in 1999 as a two-person operation out of a truck and a clipboard. A quarter-century later we're still family-owned, still answering the phone ourselves, and still walking every property before a single shovel goes in the ground.

We listen first. The knowledge and skills we've gathered across thousands of Bay Area gardens are useless without the patience to understand how a family actually lives in their yard — the morning coffee path, the dog's circuit, the shady corner where the teenager hides. Every plan begins with that conversation.

We carry full liability and property insurance because we care about our employees and we care about your home. The reputation we've earned is the only asset we can't replace, and we treat it that way.

04

Hardscaping & stonework

Dry-laid flagstone paths, bluestone patios, decomposed granite walkways and low retaining walls. Drainage graded and inspected before any stone is set.

05

Seasonal maintenance

Spring wake-up, summer deadheading, fall leaf management and winter cutback. A four-visit calendar that keeps a garden looking intentional all year.

$420per season
4 visits
06

Gutter cleaning

Hand-cleared gutters and downspouts, flushed and tested, with before-and-after photos. Critical before Bay Area winter rains — clogs cause foundation damage.

up to 2,500 sq ft
07

Irrigation & drainage

Drip system design, smart controller install, and French drain installation. We tune every zone to plant type — no more drowning the lavender to keep the ferns alive.

08

Native & pollinator planting

California natives and hummingbird-friendly palettes — salvia, ceanothus, manzanita, penstemon. Low water, high life, four seasons of movement.

03 — How we work

Four moves,
no mystery.

Every Hummingbird project — whether a single pruning visit or a full redesign — moves through the same four steps. Clear, written, and shared with you from day one.

01

Walk the site

We meet on the property, listen to how you use the space, and take note of soil, light, drainage and the existing plants worth keeping.

02

Write the plan

You receive a written scope with a phased timeline, plant list and a fixed quote. No verbal estimates, no scope creep, no “we'll figure it out as we go.”

03

Build with care

Our crew arrives on schedule, protects your hardscape, and cleans up daily. Every plant is hand-set, watered in, and mulched before we leave.

04

Tend the result

Gardens aren't finished — they're begun. We offer ongoing care so the work matures into what the plan promised, season after season.
