Walk-ins welcome
For forty-six years, Galveston County Social Services has stood with families across Texas City, La Marque, Dickinson, and the Bay Area — connecting neighbors to benefits, housing, food, and the dignity of a steady hand when life shifts beneath them.
§ 01 — Our Story
We are a Texas City nonprofit built by people who live in this county, for people who live in this county. When the refineries slow down, when a hurricane pushes inland, when a grandmother is suddenly raising three grandchildren — we are the first call many of our neighbors make, and often the only one they need to.
Our team walks with families through the moments that don't make the news: an eviction notice taped to a door, a SNAP application denied for a missing pay stub, a senior choosing between medication and groceries. We do the unglamorous, patient work of paperwork, phone calls, and follow-through — because dignity is built one resolved case at a time.
Everything we offer is bilingual, free at intake, and confidential. We partner with the United Way of Galveston County, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, and over fifty local congregations to make sure help arrives quickly and without judgment.

When the storm took our roof and our landlord took our lease, they didn't hand me a pamphlet. They sat with me for three hours and made the calls I couldn't.Maria R. Texas City resident · housing program, 2023
