Annual Wellness Exam
A 45-minute preventive physical including blood pressure, cardiovascular screening, age-appropriate cancer checks, and a personalized health plan. Includes review of family history and lifestyle.
For over two decades, Dr. Grumbles has cared for the families, fishermen, students, and retirees of Galveston Island — meeting them where they are, in the language they understand.
Dr. Loretta L. Grumbles, MD, trained at the University of Texas Medical Branch here in Galveston before completing her internal medicine residency at Baylor. She returned to the island in 2003 and has practiced on Postoffice Street ever since — first from a rented suite above a pharmacy, then from the freestanding clinic she designed in 2011.
The practice is intentionally small. We cap our patient panel below the regional average so that appointments run thirty minutes, not twelve. Annual physicals include a real conversation about sleep, motion, mood, and meals — not just a printout of lab values. Chronic conditions like hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and thyroid disease are managed with quarterly check-ins rather than annual scrambles.
We draw labs on-site, send imaging to the Galveston Diagnostic Center two blocks away, and refer to specialists at UTMB when a case requires it. Most of our patients walk to their appointments. A few arrive by ferry from the Bolivar Peninsula. All of them are seen the same day they call with an urgent concern.
Transparent pricing for self-pay patients. Most major insurance accepted — PPO, Medicare, and Medicare Advantage. Indicative fees below reflect typical self-pay rates before any insurance adjustment.
A 45-minute preventive physical including blood pressure, cardiovascular screening, age-appropriate cancer checks, and a personalized health plan. Includes review of family history and lifestyle.
Quarterly follow-up for hypertension, type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and thyroid conditions. Includes medication adjustment, lab review, and coordination with specialists when needed.
CBC, comprehensive metabolic panel, lipid panel, HbA1c, TSH, and vitamin D drawn in-clinic. Most results available within 24 hours through our patient portal.
Acute concerns — respiratory infections, minor injuries, rashes, urinary symptoms — seen the same day you call. Brief focused exam, in-house testing, and prescriptions as needed.
12-lead electrocardiogram with same-visit interpretation, plus cardiovascular risk assessment including ASCVD score calculation. Referrals to cardiology arranged within 48 hours when indicated.
Comprehensive 60-minute assessment for patients 65 and older — medication review, cognitive screening, fall risk, and advance care planning. Family members welcome to attend.
Same-day appointments available for acute concerns — call before 10am. New patient paperwork can be completed ahead of time through the form below.
A short walk from the Strand, the clinic occupies the ground floor of a restored 1904 commercial building — original pine floors, modern equipment, and quiet rooms built for conversation.
