Annual Physical
A 45-minute preventive exam for established patients — full history review, cardiovascular and cancer screening, vaccinations brought current, and a written summary mailed to you within five business days.
Dr. Leonard R. McGowen has practiced internal medicine on the Texas City peninsula for fifteen years — seeing adults eighteen and older for the kind of slow, careful primary care that doesn't fit inside a seven-minute visit.
Most clinics in Galveston County run on volume — fifteen patients a shift, a rotating cast of physician assistants, a portal that nobody answers. This one doesn't. When you book with Dr. McGowen, you see Dr. McGowen.
Since 2009
M.D.
Dr. McGowen trained at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, completed his internal medicine residency in 2008, and opened solo practice in Texas City the following spring. The clinic has occupied the same Ninth Avenue suite ever since — a deliberate choice, he says, because continuity of place is part of continuity of care.
The practice is small by design. One physician. Two medical assistants. A front desk that picks up the phone. No hospital network telling him how long a visit is allowed to last, no private-equity parent company skimming off the top. Just adult primary care, the way it was taught.
Patients here tend to stay — the average chart has been active for over nine years. That kind of history is hard to fake, and harder to replace.
Prices below are for self-pay patients and include the office visit itself. Lab work, imaging, and in-office procedures are billed separately and quoted in writing before they are performed. Most major PPO plans and traditional Medicare are accepted.
A 45-minute preventive exam for established patients — full history review, cardiovascular and cancer screening, vaccinations brought current, and a written summary mailed to you within five business days.
First-time consultation for adults transferring from another primary care provider. Includes a full chart review, medication reconciliation, and a baseline exam. Bring your last twelve months of labs if you have them.
Same-day or next-day acute care for respiratory infections, urinary symptoms, rashes, minor injuries, and similar concerns. Most visits are scheduled within twenty-four hours of the call.
Ongoing management of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, thyroid disorders, asthma and COPD, high cholesterol, and other long-term conditions. Quarterly visits with between-visit message access through the patient portal.
Blood draws, urinalysis, lipid panels, A1C, and basic metabolic panels performed on-site. Most results are returned to your portal within forty-eight hours, with a written interpretation from Dr. McGowen.
Twelve-lead electrocardiograms, spirometry for pulmonary function, and ankle-brachial index testing for peripheral artery disease — all read in-house by Dr. McGowen at the time of your visit, not sent out and forgotten.
Phones open at 8:00 AM. Same-day sick visits are reserved for morning callers — please try to reach us before 10:00 AM if you want to be seen the same day.
Not features. Not value propositions. Just the things Dr. McGowen actually does, every week, that the average urgent-care chain will not.
No seven-minute slot system. A new patient gets a full hour. Established visits run thirty minutes unless you ask for less. There is time to actually talk.
Not routed to a triage nurse, not auto-replied, not ignored. Dr. McGowen reads and replies to his own messages — usually within one business day.
The schedule holds open slots every morning for sick visits. Most acute concerns are seen within forty-eight hours of your call.
The clinic has not moved, merged, or rebranded since 2009. Your chart lives in the same filing cabinet it always has — physical and digital.
No surprise bills ninety days later. Every service has a posted price. If a procedure will cost extra, you are told in writing before it is done.
No pediatrics, no obstetrics, no distractions. Internal medicine for patients eighteen and older — focused, every day, on the diseases of adulthood.
