Dr. Dorothy Merritt, MD is board-certified in internal medicine and a graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch. She opened the practice in 2009 after a decade in hospital medicine, tired of the assembly line and certain that patients in Texas City deserved better.
The clinic sits on the ground floor of a low-slung brick building two blocks off Palmer Highway, with a view of the bay and parking out front. Inside you will find two exam rooms, an on-site lab, and a waiting room that seats six — because six is the most we will ever have waiting.
We do not run a membership model. We do not sell supplements. We do not push procedures you do not need. What we do is answer the phone, read your labs ourselves, and take the time to explain what they mean.

Consultations & Primary Care
Annual physicals, wellness visits, and ongoing primary care for adults eighteen and over. New patients get a full forty-minute workup; established patients get thirty. We manage hypertension, diabetes, thyroid disease, asthma, and the rest of the chronic conditions that make up modern adult life.

On-site Diagnostics
EKG, spirometry, and point-of-care testing done in-house — results while you wait, not three days later.
Laboratory
CBC, metabolic panel, lipid panel, A1C, TSH, vitamin D — drawn on-site, sent to LabCorp.
Chronic Care Management
Monthly check-ins for diabetes, hypertension, and complex care. Includes between-visit messaging.
Vaccinations
Flu, tetanus, shingles, pneumonia, travel.
EKG
12-lead electrocardiogram, read by Dr. Merritt.
Spirometry
Pulmonary function testing for asthma and COPD.
Telehealth
Video follow-ups for established patients only.

Call Monday morning and you will be seen that week, usually within forty-eight hours. Urgent concerns are triaged the same day. We keep two slots open every morning for exactly this reason.

Labs read by your doctor.
When your bloodwork comes back, it does not go to a reviewing nurse or an automated portal message. Dr. Merritt reads it, calls you, and explains what the numbers mean in plain English.

We do not sell supplements, weight-loss programs, vitamin infusions, or aesthetic treatments. The clinic revenue comes from one source: the care we provide. That is the only model that keeps medicine honest.

The practice is located on the ground floor of the Bayfront Medical Building, two blocks east of Palmer Highway on 27th Street. Free patient parking is available at the rear of the building, accessed from the alley off Bay Street.
