Our Story

A corner of Hampshire that moves to its own clock

Croft Cottage and The Lodge sit on a gentle bend of the River Avon, just outside the market town of Fordingbridge. The land has been in our family for three generations — once a working smallholding, now a quiet refuge for travellers looking to step out of the rush.

We’ve kept the character intact: uneven stone floors that tell the story of two centuries, a kitchen garden that still feeds the house, and broad oaks that were old when our grandmother arrived. The campsite opened in the spring of 2014, carefully slotted between the trees so the deer still cross the meadow at dawn.

  • Edge of the New Forest National Park
  • Private river crossing & fishing rights
  • Woodland walking trails on the doorstep
  • Locally sourced welcome hampers

We’ve holidayed at Croft for four summers running. The kids build dams in the river, we read on the cottage lawn until the swallows come out, and somehow we never check the time. It’s the only place we truly unplug. — The Harrison Family, Wiltshire
