Specialist secure care for young minds

We provide a highly structured, therapeutic environment for young people whose complex mental health problems mean they pose a risk to themselves or others. Our multidisciplinary team provides compassionate, evidence-based treatment tailored to each individual, helping them stabilize, heal, and build resilience for the future.

Therapeutic Environment

Our facility is designed to feel safe and homely, reducing anxiety and promoting active participation in daily therapeutic activities and education.

Expert Multidisciplinary Team

From consultant psychiatrists to specialist nurses, occupational therapists, and teachers, our dedicated staff work collaboratively to support every aspect of a young person's wellbeing.

NHS Standard of Care

As part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, we adhere to the highest standards of clinical governance, safety, and patient rights.

Understanding admissions

Admissions to Bluebird House are carefully considered to ensure we are the right environment for the young person's specific needs. We provide care under the Mental Health Act, ensuring safety and intensive support.

  • Services are for both male and female young people, typically aged 12 to 18 years.
  • Young people must be under 18 at the time of their referral.
  • Treatment may continue beyond age 18 if clinically necessary, though discharge occurs before the 19th birthday.
  • Admissions are typically under detention of the Mental Health Act and may involve Ministry of Justice restrictions.

Family & Carer Support

We know that having a young person in secure care is incredibly difficult for families. We actively encourage family involvement in the care planning process and provide support networks to navigate this journey together.
